Nahum is about the destruction of the Assyrian capital city, Nineveh, as foretold by the prophet, Nahum.

The song follows on immediately after Nineveh (Nahum chapter 2) made up of excerpts from Nahum chapter 3.

Musically, this is one of the most "progressive" tracks on the album, as it moves through multiple sections, placing different emphases on different 'verses'. In fact, it is "through-composed". That is, every following section of music has never been heard before. The number of different sections threaded together are as many as 9.

Clattering wheels, charging cavalry, frantic fortifications, a siege, consuming fire and swords cutting down can all be found in the music.

From the description to Nineveh:
Assyria was the great super-power of the 7th century Ancient Near East. She was known for her ruthless cruelty. Many neighbouring nations were under her power and were growing to resent that. Assyria would do everything from forcing other nations to pay tribute to them to completely wiping other nations out.

Famously, they were responsible for the annihilation of the Northern kingdom of Israel.

From a theological perspective, what happens to Nineveh comes as the judgement of God for their depraved actions.
