The Final Course is about… a death race where brothers-in-arms race and fight with all manner of weapons, through all manner of obstacles, on winding terrain of dazzling colours – life or death.

In other words, it’s about... Mario Kart. This song voices many player’s initial feelings when faced with “The Final Course” of the game: Rainbow Road. "The signal's changing as I push the pedal down" refers to when to press the A-button to get the boost at the start of a race. The hell-hounds are chain-chomps and the shells are… shells. The last verse depicts a glitch in the level where a player can fly off the track and land on the other side to their great advantage.

Musically, this punchy rocker has a guitar solo that includes a musical reference to the game’s soundtrack.

8 brothers driving out to chase the golden crown

We’re riding shadows at the edge of the rainbow
This spiral maze must end but where? I cannot know

The hell hounds’ chains are loosed, they’re coming straight ahead

I wind and wonder “will there ever be an end?”
Dodging the flying shell, I use her to defend
Swerving through obstacles, I hear the engine cough
But still I carry her, the barrier comes off!

3 strips of yellow and the power steering fails
I jump in desperation as the cart derails
My 7 brothers laugh and watch me disappear
I know my time has come, my destiny is near

The darkness shrouds me as I fall into the void
Surely my weapons and my life will be destroyed
Then in the distance is a glimmering bright light
My starry eyes grow wide as land appears in sight
